About
The Central Library of Pragjyotishpur University was established in 2022 alongside the
inception of the University. As a key academic support unit, the library plays an important
role in facilitating teaching, learning, and research activities within the University. Along
with the Central Library, the School of Pharmacy Library is also functioning effectively to meet
the specialized information needs of pharmacy students and faculty. Both libraries are committed
to providing quality resources, services, and a conducive learning environment for the academic
community.
Library Location
University Central Library is situated in the second floor of Amrit Bhawan and the
Pharmacy Library is situated in the first floor of School of Pharmacy Building.
Library Timing
8.50 AM to 4.30 PM (From October to February)
8.50 AM to 5.00 PM (From March to September)
Sundays and other university holidays are closed

Mission
The Pragjyotishpur university library serves as a knowledge center for academics. The
preservation of document for future generation and dissemination of right resources to
the right user in the right time is the mission of the Library.

provides free internet to users via wi-fi facility to navigate various e-resources.

provides sufficient reading space for users.

lab available for students.
Library Collection
The Central Library houses a rich and diverse range of specialized collections designed to
meet the academic, cultural, and intellectual interests of its users. Alongside an extensive
collection of textbooks and reference materials, the Competitive Examination Section provides
essential resources for competitive exam preparation, career guidance, and personality development.
The Biography Section offers inspiring accounts of eminent personalities, while the Music Section
serves as a valuable resource centre for music lovers, students, scholars, and researchers. The
library also preserves an impressive collection of Sanskrit literature and the Pt. Deendayal
Upadhyay Collection.
A dedicated Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Section promotes deeper understanding of India's
traditional knowledge heritage. The Special Collection includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, and
Rachanawalis of distinguished Assamese writers. In addition, the library maintains a unique
collection of materials in various ethnic and indigenous languages of Northeast India, reflecting
the region's rich linguistic and cultural diversity.

Library Rules

Library will remain open from 8.50 AM to 5.00 PM on all days except Sunday and University Holidays

Personal belongings of users other than notebooks should be kept on property counter

All users should register their name and details on attendance register after entry in the library

Students can borrow maximum 3 books at a time, faculty members can borrow 5 books at a time and
non-teaching staff can borrow 3 books at a time

Books are issued for 15 days
-
In no case student can keep book beyond 15 days from the date of issue. A fine of 2 Rs. per day
will be charged for every delayed date

No reference books and rare books are issued

Pragjyotishpur University, in collaboration with the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation
Ltd. (NEDFi), came together for an insightful programme titled "Our Constitution, Our Pride," followed
by a book distribution ceremony at Dhanvantari Bhawan.

National Reading Day Celebration, 2025 (Jun 19, 2025)
On the occasion of National Reading Day 2025, the Pragjyotishpur University Central Library in
collaboration with the Pragjyotishpur University Literary Society, organized an Essay Writing
Competition among students on the theme "From Manuscript to AI: The Evolution of Knowledge
Transmission and Reading Habits." Students from various disciplines actively participated in the
competition, showcasing their thoughts and creativity.

PU Central Library Observes National Librarians' Day, 2025 (Aug 12, 2025)
Pragjyotishpur University Central Library celebrated National Librarians' Day, marking the 133rd
birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The
event featured speeches by faculty, including the Honourable Registrar, Prof. Jogesh Kakati, and
saw enthusiastic participation from teachers and students.

Book Fair: On 27 November 2024, the Central Library of Pragjyotishpur
University organized a Book Fair at the campus with the objective of promoting reading habits
among students and faculty members. The event provided an excellent platform for readers to
explore a wide range of academic, literary, and general books from different publishers and
booksellers.

Student Orientation Program: On 28 August 2026, Pragjyotishpur University Central
Library organized an Orientation Programme for newly admitted students. The programme aimed to
introduce students to the importance of books and libraries in shaping knowledge, values, and
responsible human beings. During the session, students were guided on the effective use of library
resources and services, including books, journals, digital resources, and reading facilities available
in the Central Library. The programme also encouraged students to develop regular reading habits and
make maximum use of the library for their academic and personal growth.

Book Donation Initiatives: Pragjyotishpur University Central Library has launched a
Book Donation Drive to enrich its library resources and promote reading and research culture among
students and faculty members. Scholars, teachers, writers, and individuals from different fields have
